Towards the end of 2018, the state of my life stood like this.

  • Career and Relationship wise, I'd achieved the unthinkable. Proving my mettle at work was a herculean task in itself. Mentoring and getting Nat to London and moving in with her was a challenge. Neither of these would have succeeded if not for the sustained passion I had for my work and the commitment I had towards her over the years. That said, it was in these years that my addiction to the web was at its peak. I just found it to be more pleasurable than anything else. I resisted anything that came in its way including once when I had a disagreement with Nat about what we did on weekends. She was a very sociable character and I just wanted to be holed up with my laptop at home coding much to her dismay. Ist happened again when she was sick one day and I chose to go to the office rather than take her to the hospital. She didn't say anything, but she saw the anti-social I was becoming. I was neglecting the basic and most important things in life which I very well knew but just couldn't act on. My responsibilities started to pile up and go beyond my control.

  • Finance wise, my net worth started to build up. I had built up a decent corpus both in India and in the UK. My salary was just under 50K a year and I didn't think much of taxes or investments at the time. I didn't have the time to educate myself either. I knew I was not putting my money to its best possible use. I always wanted to educate myself on Finance but never got the time to do it.

  • Health wise, I was taking as much a beating as the amount of success I was getting in everything else. At work, I had a smoking buddy - Sho. A very meticulous and hard working person from Ethiopia. Considerably more experienced in life and work than me, we used to use the smoking sessions for deep philosophical conversations. Coupling smoking with therapeutic conversations was not a very clever idea. The impact of the sedentaty lifestyle, irregular sleeping habits, and untreated injuries began to show up on my face.
