Flat Hunt in Berlin

So in the November of 2019, I went to Berlin and for the first few days lived in a friend’s room at a Winterthurstraße (pronounced Winterthurstrasse) who had gone back to India for vacation. I only had a few days until he returned to find a place. Berlin was nothing like London. There were no bars or pubs wherever you turn to go get something to eat. Things were written in German everywhere and for the first few days, I was in a bit of a culture shock. And I was too timid to just go into a restaurant somewhere. I remember surviving the first week on noodles from the supermarket.

After sharing rooms all my work life prior to that, I didn't want to share anymore. I grew tired of trying to find the cheapest room. I wanted to move past a mindset of extreme frugality toward a more balanced approach to spending. And so I decided to invest in a good place reasonably close to the city center and not somewhere the economically destitute lived far away from civilization because they didn't have a choice. I found a great studio in Friedrichshain and started living a decent life for a change.

I had a great team of Engineers at Delivery Hero. They all lived up to the company's motto - "We are heroes because we care" while also being extremely good at what they did. Just a few months into the role, I was asked to lead the team to deliver a new high visibility project.

In 2020, things were about to change.
